ASP.NET on Linux – Give it another chance

Last year I started a quest to use a “Windows” language to build a “hello world” website running on a Linux machine. After overcoming several hurdles and the quest turning into shaving a whole herd of yaks, I threw the towel into the ring. There were more interesting, and a lot more fun, things to do with my time.

Never got around to going on the quest I announced in that post.

Note to self: don’t announce what you are planning on doing. The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Talk about what you have done or, at least, are doing now.

Anyway, if you are still interested in running an ASP.NET 5, now known as ASP.NET Core, website on Linux, I’d bet you will find Publishing an ASP.NET Core website to a cheap Linux VM host by Scott Hanselman very useful. Reading it, it even got my ideas flowing again for sites on cheap Linux machines. But, as noted above: no announcements until well into a build.
